Summer Reading List

Commencement was on Saturday and so thus officially begins summer break. Well, I suppose the official summer doesn’t happen until I finish grading, but close enough.

What will I be reading this summer? Oh, this and that.

Hideyuki Kikuchi, Vampire Hunter D: Pale Fallen Angel — need to finish this still.

Donna Tartt, The Secret History — recommended by JP. I found it on the table with a post-it that said “Read! Me!” How could I not?

Curtis Sittenfeld, Prep — another JP recommendation. Part of my question to find, Young Adult lit that is, like, um, you know, smart.

Juliet Nicolson, The Perfect Summer: England 1911, Just Before the Storm — this one has been on my list for a few years now. It’s written by Vita Sackville-West’s granddaughter. Non-fiction.

Stephen Kind, Salem’s Lot — I’ve never read it before. Figure I ought to.

Melissa Marr, Wicked Lovely — I like the title. What can I say?

The British cover. I think I like the US one better. Silas looks more like a vampire, though. Nob looks too normal.

Neil Gaiman, The Graveyard Book — I’ve read it twice before but I think it’s my favorite book these days. It’s such joy to read.

Kelly Link, Pretty Monsters — short story collection. It was a random google discovery.

Karen Russell, St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves — an Amazon “if you like . . .” suggestion.

Margo Lanagan, Red Spikes — I like the cover.

Now, everybody go watch Ink.
